What is Breathable Roofing felt?

Commonly referred to as building breathable underlay or breathable roofing felt , a breathable roofing felt is a professional functional material specially installed on the outer side of thermal insulation layers for pitched roofs, flat roofs and external wall systems.

Manufactured with engineered microporous structure, it works on a physical principle: liquid rain droplets are blocked from penetrating the membrane under surface tension, while tiny water vapor molecules trapped inside wall or roof cavities can pass through freely to the exterior. This unique feature prevents rainwater infiltration whilst actively releasing trapped moisture inside the building envelope.

When properly installed, it effectively eliminates internal condensation buildup, inhibits mold and mildew formation on insulation and wall substrates, and avoids rust and corrosion on steel beams, purlins and metal roof components. Notes

Place breathable roofing felt outside insulation and vapour control layer inside. Seal all overlaps with butyl tape.

Cover the membrane quickly to avoid long-term UV exposure and keep away from high-temperature welding work.
