Xia's Packing's Over Three Decades Of Cross-Industry Innovation In Materials

Many people simplistically equate building enclosure membrane materials with ordinary plastic films. However, high-performance waterproof, vapor-permeable, and vapor-barrier products rely on decades of accumulated polymer material expertise.

Founded in 1984 and headquartered in Xiong’an New Area, Xiongxian Xia's Packing originally produced eco-friendly, recyclable packaging. Drawing on deep know-how in polypropylene polymers, the company expanded into green building enclosures and created its full building envelope product line under the brand Jinbo HouseDress.

This cross-industry transition carries forward its environmental philosophy and material R&D strength into the construction sector. The company supplies integrated solutions, including membrane materials, supporting accessories and application guidance, for domestic and international engineering projects.

Rooted in Polymer Technology: From Packaging Manufacturer to Material Developer

Xiongxian Xia's Packing is a third-generation family industrial enterprise. At the very beginning, it focused on shopping bags, gift bags and branded promotional packaging.

From day one, the company adopted 100% biodegradable and recyclable polymer raw materials. It specialized in processing eco-friendly non-woven fabrics and polypropylene composites, as well as related composite manufacturing techniques. Years of research on substrate modification, embossing and composite forming built the solid technical foundation for its later entry into advanced building materials.

2009: Entering Overseas Green Building Market with Jinbo HouseDress

In 2009, with its mature polymer processing capability, Xia's Packing officially stepped into the building envelope material sector. It independently developed Jinbo HouseDress, including waterproof vapor-permeable membranes, vapor barriers and reflective isolation membranes, and launched these products into European and North American markets.

At that time, the “breathable building” concept was still little-known in China. In contrast, overseas green construction widely used microporous membrane materials to solve common problems: condensation inside wall and roof cavities, mold growth and insulation layer failure. After the Jinbo series launched abroad, the brand gained positive feedback from global buyers and completed field performance verification overseas.

Key R&D Milestones: Solving Real Construction Pain Points

2012: Anti-condensation felt for metal roof systems

Metal roof projects often suffer from dripping condensation and loud rain noise. To tackle these frequent issues, Xia's Packing developed anti-condensation felt in 2012.

Made with hydrophilic fibers, the material creates an adsorption-evaporation cycle to handle condensed water. It can be cold-pressed and composited directly onto metal sheets. The product eliminates condensation dripping inside steel structures and reduces raindrop impact noise, filling a gap in domestic metal roofing auxiliary materials.

2014: Complete sealing system for building envelope joints

Global building airtightness standards keep rising. Using only main membrane materials cannot protect weak construction nodes such as window perimeters, panel overlaps and screw penetration points.

In 2014, the company cooperated with European customers to develop a full line of vapor-permeable and vapor-barrier sealing tapes and matching construction accessories. This built a complete product ecosystem: functional membranes + sealing tapes + installation supplies. Instead of merely selling membrane rolls, Xia's Packing provides matched joint materials to minimize water and vapor leakage risks of the whole building envelope.

Agile Material Technology: Flexible R&D Beyond Building Materials

Material manufacturers’ competitiveness also lies in the ability to respond quickly to special market demands. During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Xia's Packing restarted production during the Spring Festival. It used its non-woven fabric processing capacity to manufacture epidemic prevention supplies such as masks and protective clothing, and took part in exterior wall waterproofing for temporary hospital projects.

In 2022, the firm partnered with domestic clients to develop non-woven flexible stretchers. Leveraging the material’s high flexibility and tear resistance, the stretchers improve patient transfer within narrow spaces. These projects demonstrate the company’s agile R&D and commercialization capability as a polymer material platform enterprise.

Conclusion

Xia's Packing’s more-than-30-year journey, shifting from eco-packaging to full building envelope systems, is a typical case showing how traditional manufacturers realize cross-industry upgrading by mastering core material technologies.

Rather than simply copying foreign finished products, the company develops customized building envelope solutions adapted to China’s diverse climates and different construction requirements. Driven by the global “dual-carbon” green building trend, Jinbo HouseDress will keep investing in polymer R&D, balancing product performance, durability, safety and recyclability.

The company delivers end-to-end support for architects, general contractors and global distributors, from material selection and structural detailing to sampling and technical guidance. It aims to support the construction of healthier, energy-saving and longer-lasting modern buildings.
