The Origin of Waterproof and Breathable Membrane

In the 1940s, European architects discovered that traditional waterproof materials, due to their airtight nature, trapped moisture in houses, easily leading to mold, rot, and bacterial growth. This seriously threatened the living environment. Based on this phenomenon, in the late 1980s, building experts developed waterproof and breathable membranes, which were widely promoted in Europe and America.

Product Working Principle and Characteristics

This waterproof and breathable membrane works by utilizing micropores for ventilation. Since the smallest water droplet diameter is 20 micrometers, while the diameter of a water vapor molecule is only about 0.0004 micrometers, the huge difference in diameter allows water vapor to diffuse through the micropores.

Due to surface tension, liquid water molecules cannot enter, thus achieving the function of waterproofing and breathability. Furthermore, it has withstood 168 hours of strong UV radiation and 80°C high-temperature testing.
